Testimonials

From Dirk

Hi Elisa, Joanna, Freya,

I had a wonderful time in Iceland again some 14 days ago.

The volcano jeep tour was amazing, our guide was fantastic, and knew perfectly well where to bring us.
Some results you can see in this album, the volcano pics were taken on the 4th of May : http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=179237&id=735997038&l=8afb9845f3

Thanks also for arranging the caving and snorkeling, quite a different experience.

Have fun over there,
Dirk

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1

The trip starts with a pick up from your accommodation in Reykjavík at 08:00 – 08:30. We will then head out of town and drive to Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is a hidden pearl only about two hours drive from Reykjavík. It is not a part of the Icelandic ring road so visitors often miss this treasure of Icelandic nature. We´ll do a nice warm up for the days to come as we explore the must see of Snæfellsnes including Lóndrangar, Djúpalónssandur and more. We will have lunch at the legendary Café, Fjöruhúsið. It sits in a little bay by the sea, surrounded by cliffs and seabirds. This café has a reputation for offering the best fish soup on earth and you can judge for yourself After our sightseeing we´ll head to Hótel Búðir where we´ll check in and then have dinner in this one of a kind hotel. Most people will have a hard time resisting an evening walk along the beautiful Búðir beach.

Day 2

We´ll aim for the beautiful mountain range of Snæfellsnes, starting our hike at the northern side of the peninsula, near Grundarfjörður fishing village. We will spend the day traversing the mountains towards the south. We´ll let weather and winds control our hike, aiming for higher peaks if the weather is clear but stay lower and enjoy the beauty of valleys and mountain passes if clouds hover above our heads. We´ll walk towards the south coast of Snæfellsnes and end up in our Hotel, in time to enjoy the world famous cuisine of this countryside pearl…

Day 3

Today we´ll hike to the top of the world famous Snæfellsjökull glacier. It is one of the most picturesque mountains in Iceland, rising up to 1450 meters altitude and is clearly visible more than 100 km away. Many have written poets about it´s beauty and shining white coat of ice and snow. The most famous literature about Snæfellsjökull is undoubtedly Jules Verne novel, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. On clear days the view from the top is out of this world and even on cloudy days, you can surely feel the power of this amazing dormant volcano. Dinner at Hótel Búðir.

Day 4

In the morning we´ll check out of the hotel and pack our things in the car. We´ll then head for Stykkishólmur fishing village to catch a ferry to Flatey, the biggest island in Breiðafjörður, the bay of countless islands. There we´ll explore this beautiful island and it´s countless seabirds. A visit to Flatey makes you feel like you have travelled back in time as the few buildings there are old and history surrounds us as we go along. We will eat lunch at Hótel Flatey before we head back to Stykkishólmur. We´ll spend the afternoon making our way back to Reykjavík.

Please Note: The guide will study the weather forecast during the trip and make decisions regarding which hikes suits best for which days. So we might need to make slight changes to the itinerary during the trip to make your days as pleasant as possible.
