Testimonials

From Bridgett

I just returned from Iceland.  For our last full day, my mom and I went on the Golden Circle Super Jeep Safari.  There were so many cool parts of our trip to Iceland that it was hard to pick a favorite until our Golden Circle safari.  The day surpassed my expectations and easily became my favorite part of the vacation!

Earlier on our trip, we had gone on a tour with a different company.  I wish we had instead booked a second tour with Arctic Adventures – by far a better experience and a real adventure.  Palli was an awesome guide!!  He was on time to pick us up, gave us plenty of time at all of the stops, shared interesting information about each stop and about Iceland in general.

The sights of the Golden Circle are incredible themselves, but the little/more personal things about the day made all the difference….I will never forget driving through the icy river (again and again), getting stuck and pulled out of the snow, and seeing the Icelandic horses up close and personal.   I feel like we truly had a personalized tour through the Golden Circle.

This was a great way for my mom and I to end our trip to Iceland.  Thank you so much to Palli for the awesome memories!!  I highly recommend Arctic Adventures to anyone traveling to Iceland!

Volcano Visit

Individual extension after your trek

Day 6:  The trek you have been taking part in is now over and on its way back to Reykjavik. On the way you have the option to leave your fellow trekkers at the harbour of Þorlakshöfn to take the ferry Herjólfur to Vestmannaeyjar islands. After a 3 hour boat ride the ferry reaches Heimaey, the largest and only inhabited island of the archipelago. Heimaey is dominated by Eldfell, "the mountain of fire", a new volcano whose eruption increased the island’s area by one third and threatened the important fishing harbor in 1973. Take an evening walk to the volcano, which is still warm!

Day 7: The Vestmann Islands are home to the largest established Puffins colony in the world with about 8 millions birds (observation until August 15th). It is often possible to admire the great Gannet diving for fish, and if we are lucky, we will catch a glimpse of killer whales or huge Fin whales. It is possible to go on a little cruise around the island of Heimaey if weather permits.

Day 8: Embarkation on the ferry Herjólfur to  the mainland at Þorlákshöfn. You are free to choose your time of departure, in the early morning (08:00) or in the afternoon (15:30). Transfer by regular bus to Reykjavik (possible transfer to Keflavik International airport for US flights). You arrive in Reykjavik around midday (or 19:00 if you choose to take afternoon ferry). Afternoon and evening are on your own in Reykjavik.
