Thundergod Valley Expedition
Self drive super jeep tour with teambuilding and incentive trials
2 days, overnight at remote hut in the Icelandic Highlands
.
Trip difficulty 3 out of 5 possible.
Get ready for two days of exploring the great outdoors discovering remarkable and dramatic landscapes.
Our expert guides will pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik. Before the tour starts we will hold a briefing on off-road techniques and driving skills in Iceland, the car equipment as well as discussing our adventurous days laying ahead. Your modified 4x4 self-drive vehicle is ready for you outside. You board your Super Defender driving with the leading vehicle out of town taking the course to the East. We turn into the glacier valley Thorsmörk, named after Thor the Norse God of Thunder. On our way into the valley we stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss and the spectacular gorge Stakkholtsgjá where we go on a short hike. After fording numerous glacier rivers we enjoy the rest of the day exploring these adventurous surroundings at the end of the valley. Here we stay overnight at the remote hut and have a BBQ feast for dinner.
The next day we leave this sheltered galcial valley and head further towards the East, where we come to the black basalt sand shore in the south of the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. Here we experience the enhanced driving ability with the partly deflated 38" tires while driving on the sands, with the Atlantic Ocean as the next door neighbour. From here we head to the glacier tongue Solheimajökull, an outlet glacier from the Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s second biggest. There we explore the strange and frozen expanse, surely a visit not soon forgotten. We should be back in Reykjavík in early evening.
