From Karen

Hey Torfi.

We had a very very good trip Saturday - despite the weather!! I have been on many different trips during my eight years with Icelandair and htis was definitely one of the best (and I have been to Sólheimajökul before) The journalists looked like kids in a candy store and they actully thought that the not-so-good weather only added to the experience.

My new friend Raggi is so cool, super competent and super sympathetic, I am so impressed of him - an he is so young! The best part though (for me at least ;o)  was that I drove one of the cars, THAT was fun - especially when Raggi convinced me that I could.

Detailed itinerary:
Day 1 The trip starts on Thursday morning we head along the South Coast towards the glaciers. Arriving at Sólheimjökull glacier we gear up for a glacier hike. Sólheimajökull is a crawling glacier and is therefore rugged, cracked and utterly breathtaking. After about an hour of glacier hiking we stop at some of the many ice walls. There you can, under the supervision of experts, try your hand at climbing the ice. On the way back to Reykjavík we make a short stop at the Skógafoss waterfall.

Day 2 On Friday morning we head out for an amazing visit to the Golden Circle. There we will see the Geysir hot spring area, the Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir national park. We dine at Drumbo base camp before we raft the beautiful and exciting Hvítá river. Afterwards you can relax in the hot tubs or sauna.

Day 3
On Saturday we explore the hidden world of the lava field between Þingvellir and Laugarvatn. Walking into the cave, discovering the marvels that the volcanic activity has created. The second adventure of the day is a surreal and breathtaking snorkeling visit to the Silfra ravine in the heart of the park. The Silfra is located on the boundary between America and Europe and offers crystal clear underwater views of the lava fissure. Silfra is one of the top ten dive sites in the world and it’s even better for snorkeling.

Day 4 On Sunday morning we head to Eldhestar horse farm for a horse riding trip around the farm followed by a lunch. A great chance to experience the unique Icelandic horse and its abilities. After the riding tour we visit the world famous Blue Lagoon for a relaxing afternoon in its hot spring waters before heading back to Reykjavík in the afternoon.

Day 5 On Monday it is optional to go on a sea kayaking adventure on the spectacular Hvalfjordur fjord. The kayaking is a stoic and relaxing trip in one of the deep fjords of the North-Atlantic Ocean.

Day 6  On Tuesday morning we explore the open sea with a whale watching excursion from Reykjavik down town harbor. After the trip you can go shopping and sightseeing in Reykjavik. Come to our shop down town Reykjavík for maps and info.
