In this UNESCO world heritage site will experience first hand how Iceland was created as we descent into the lava field and go lava caving. Accompanied by an expert caving guide we will explore the Gjábakkahellir cave and even travel under the road and emerge on the other side. From the national park we will move on to the Geysir spouting hot springs and then to the 32 meter high Gullfoss waterfall. Late lunch at the Drumbó river rafting base camp and river rafting on the magnificent Hvítá river. BBQ dinner after the trip in the base camp. Overnight in the Dalsel hostel in Laugarvatn sleeping bag accommodation close to the base camp.
Day 2 Departing from the Laugarvatn up to Dómadalur Valley and to the North side of Mt. Hekla. From there we will hike one of the most active volcanoes in the world with a geologist and mountain guide. The way to the top leads us through recent lava flows and formations, this is surely the most interesting hike in Iceland and the view from the top is breathtaking! Packed lunch included.

Day 3 Waking we travel to the 60 meter high Skógar waterfall and from there to the Reynisdrangar cliffs and Dyrhóley. We also make a short stop for lunch at Vík í Mýrdal and many more sights along our way to Jökulsárlón. Late in the afternoon we taka a cruise on the Jökulsárlón (glacier lagoon) and cruise past magnificent ice burgs. The night is spent in the Vesturhús hostel close to Skaftafell. On this day we will have to prepare dinner and breakfast for the morning after since the hostel does no provide any food.
Day 4 We visit the Skaftafell National park under the immensely big Vatnajökull glacier (Europe’s biggest) and go for a three-hour hike around the national park with a stop at the famous black column basalt waterfall, Svartifoss waterfall. Then we visit the Falljökull outlet glacier and explore the frozen expanse with its magnificent crevasses and sink holes. Check out some pictures from our hikes on outlet glaciers
here. Finishing our exploration in the afternoon we drive all the way back to Hestheimar close to Hella village where we arrive late and spend our fourth night.
Day 5 After our breakfast we go for a two-hour riding tour on the Icelandic Viking horse. After lunch we drive along the Reykjanes peninsula arriving at the Blue Lagoon in the afternoon. This is our chance to unwind and relax in the hot milky blue water after all the adventures. From the Blue Lagoon we can either end the trip in Reykjavik or fly out from the Keflavík Airport located 15 minutes away.
